iCloud Requires Mac OS X Lion

Well, so much for using iCloud to sync my iPhone and MacBook. Apparently it requires Mac OS X 10.7.2 or higher, and I'm still using Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

So none of those fancy iPhone to Mac features will work for me.

I suppose I could update to the latest version of Mac OS X, but right now, I'd rather not. I'm waiting to upgrade my MacBook to a newer version some time later. But not quite right now. Right now I'd rather just wait.

iOS 5 Mini Review

I've only been playing around with iOS 5 for a few hours, since the update took forever thanks to the infamous "Error 3200," so this is just some first impressions.

What I Like

Android's Notification Center

Notifications now appear at the top of the phone, and you can swipe down to view them (and various widgets) at any time. So that's nice. And exactly the same way it works in Android.

Mega Man X Race

This is an archive (essentially) of Mega Man X Race over on the Something Awful Let's Play forums. It's in the second round right now. This is just a list of the groups and the videos. Posters are listed by their Something Awful names.

Details about the race are over at the forums, you can check them out over there.

Heh

I know I'm not the only one this is happening to, but it's still amusing:

Apple's website returning a HTTP 403 Forbidden error

Update: Just to be clear, this happened immediately after the iPhone 4S was announced (October 4th, 2011), but before Steve Jobs's death (October 5th, 2011). Note the time stamp.

Dumping a ZSNES Movie as an RGB Video

It turns out that ZSNES has a video dumping facility. Unfortunately, all of its presets are crap and it wants to dump the video out as YUV, which looks horrible. And you need to download MEncoder, which can be hard to find.

Restaurant Website Nightmares

After watching an episode of Kitchen Nightmares (sadly the US version, the UK version is better), I decided it might be time to try and get some takeout from one of the many local restaurants in my area.

Unfortunately, I am a bit of an "introvert," and therefore don't know anyone in my area and know next to no restaurants. So to Google Maps it is to look at local pizza places.

That finds me today's entry for "Restaurant Website Nightmares," Jimmy's Pizzeria.

Comments on Club Nintendo

Club Nintendo has surveys you can fill out. They're another one of those surveys where you have to answer the "comments" free text field. So I did:

Facebook.net NoScript Surrogate Script

This is only for blip.tv, but as of now, if you have NoScript set to block Facebook.net, you won't be able to view videos on blip.tv.

Thankfully, there is a feature in NoScript called "surrogate scripts" that allows NoScript to substitute a script stub to make things work on websites even if a given domain is blocked. So all I need to do it write a surrogate script to implement the functions it needs.

It turns out blip.tv doesn't work because a single function is missing: FB.Event.subscribe. So the entire surrogate script is:

PSN Welcome Back Metacritic Scores

So the PSN Welcome Back thing is live now. You have 30 days (I think) to choose your prizes. As a public service, here is the list of games provided and a link to their Metacritic scores are after the break.

Thoughts on Final Fantasy XIV: Levequests

I actually like the idea of levequests. In theory. There's a lot of things I like about Final Fantasy XIV, in theory. Sadly, then we get to the actual implementation of things, and everything just kind of all falls apart.
