ZSNES on Mac OS X

ZSNES is a cross-platform (well, cross-OS, since it's written in assembly - so x86 only) Super Nintendo emulator.

Since it can be compiled for Linux, it stands to reason it can be compiled for Mac OS X.

And it can. More (including a DMG) after the jump.

New PlayStation Network "portable ID" thingy

I guess Sony updated the PlayStation Network avatar thingy (they call it a "portable ID" - whatever).

So here's my updated version:

Get your Portable ID!

Aw yeah. 1 Platinum trophy.

The Problem With (certain) News Media...

Slashdot has a very interesting story about a poor system administrator who was fired for running SETI@Home. You see, the evil management types found it to be a waste of their resources, claiming that it caused $1 million worth of damages!

Doesn't sound very fair, does it?

Stargate Universe: Wormholes in Stars

In Stargate Universe, they recently attempted to dial home to Earth by using the power of star, creating the wormhole from within the star.

The very next episode, they mentioned that solar flares can cause the wormhole to bounce back and travel through time.

So, wouldn't dialing from within a star contain a somewhat heightened danger of accidental time travel? OK, so solar activity is somewhat unpredictable, and presumably varies from star-to-star, so the risk might be somewhat limited.

The End of an Era: the Close of Geocities

Man, I managed to completely miss this, but Geocities has shut down as of today. I remember when I put my first website up on ... OK, not on Geocities, but on a local ISP. Using hand-written HTML.

But still with a bit too much annoying-graphical flair. (Specifically with the over-patterned backgrounds. Yes, I know I did that here last Christmas, this Christmas will be better. I hope.) So, here it is, my tribute to Geocities closing down.

I mentioned it. That's my tribute. The end.

iDon't care...

So apparently Verizon has decided it needs to take the iPhone head on, and is running a campaign that makes various points all starting with "iDon't." (Some of them are pretty damned weak, like "iDon't run widgets.")

Then it jumps from clean and Apple-like to noisy and - well, honestly, it reminds me of a traditional horror movie promo. "Coming November, it's DROID. DROID is a trademark of Lucasfilm Ltd. and it's related companies."

Compiling the Spring Framework from behind a proxy

This is one of those things that turns out to be incredibly easy, if only I had realized that ages ago.

First: do not use Maven! It will not work. Instead, use Ant. (This is an important note, because I'm trying to create the Maven artifacts to include in a local repository. More on that later.)

And Another Dissidia Final Fantasy Video

Yet again, another video on the subject of Omnislash Version 5 being a little on the overpowering side. I like this one better than the last.

Omnislash Version 5 is Evil

This post is more to test posting video than anything else. In short: Omnislash Version 5 is a rather evil ability that Cloud gets.

Other Characters That Would Be Fun in Dissidia Final Fantasy

Dissidia Final Fantasy is out in North America, and I've been playing waaaaaay too much of it, but here are some of my musings on what would be interesting additional characters.

I'll try and keep the list limited to characters that would be fun to play, but some, er, punching bags may have also made it into the list.
