Ubuntu 8.04 is out!
I've been using it for a while on my work Linux computer and my home Linux laptop. The work machine's been running basically flawlessly. The laptop had some issues with the wireless adapter, but thankfully that has been resolved.
On the laptop side, 3D graphics effects are now supported. I now have Compiz running on both machines, which is kind of cool. (And since I've mucked with the window closing animations, closing windows is much more exciting than it used to be. Burn and Beam Up are cool. Uh, anyway.)
I was wondering if Ubuntu 8.04 was going to beat Firefox 3 to release. It did.
That means that the Long Term Stable release is going to start with a beta release of Firefox. Ah well, you can't win them all, I guess.
I've been running the 64-bit version on my home laptop, and I'm pleased to report that I'm able to access YouTube videos despite Flash still being 32-bit only. (Screw you very much, Adobe.)
Everything appears to be working properly, which is always nice.
The new features I've noticed are really Firefox 3. Firefox 3 finally supports GTK+ themes in form widgets. My buttons now look proper!
Beyond that, I haven't really used any of the new features, or even really noticed them. I guess that says something. Sadly I can't really find a list of new features on their website. Thankfully whoever submitted the story on Slashdot did, so I can link to the list of new features.
Sadly, after poking through it, there's really no meat there. Ah well.
Still, nice to finally have Compiz working on my laptop.
